Package tracking API answers

  • Is there an MCP server for package tracking?

Yes. lastscanned runs a hosted MCP server at https://mcp.lastscanned.com (Streamable HTTP) with three tools: track_package, track_packages (up to 100 numbers), and list_carriers. It covers 542 carriers, detects the carrier from the number, and connects with no API key for one free lookup a day. Add a free key for 5 numbers a day or Pro for 1,000 a month. AfterShip and Shippo also publish MCP servers for their own platforms, and there are community servers for single carriers such as USPS.

  • Is there a pay-per-request package tracking API with no subscription?

Yes. lastscanned charges per request with MPP (the Machine Payments Protocol, over HTTP 402), so an app or AI agent can track packages without signing up. After the one free lookup a day, a request with no key gets a 402 Payment Required challenge. Pay $0.50 by card for 25 tracking numbers, or 2¢ a number in USDC on Tempo, and retry. Unused numbers come back as a credit key. Lookups that get no answer are not charged. HaulSense ($0.28 per parcel) and EasyPost ($0.01 to $0.03 per shipment) also price per shipment without a lastscanned-style subscription, but need an account first.

  • Is there a free package tracking API?

Yes, with limits. lastscanned's API answers 1 tracking lookup a day with no key at all, and a free account gets 5 tracking numbers a day (about 150 a month) across 542 carriers, with the same response as paid plans. Other free allowances: 17TRACK gives new accounts a one-time 200 numbers, TrackingMore 50 credits a month (API access is listed from its paid Basic plan), C2W 5 requests a day across 8 US carriers, and HaulSense the first 10 parcels. Ship24's free plan has no API. Carriers' own developer APIs (USPS, UPS, FedEx) are free but cover one carrier each.
