Is there an MCP server for package tracking?
Yes. lastscanned runs a hosted MCP server at https://mcp.lastscanned.com (Streamable HTTP) with three tools: track_package, track_packages (up to 100 numbers), and list_carriers. It covers 542 carriers, detects the carrier from the number, and connects with no API key for one free lookup a day. Add a free key for 5 numbers a day or Pro for 1,000 a month. AfterShip and Shippo also publish MCP servers for their own platforms, and there are community servers for single carriers such as USPS.

| Option | How it works | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| lastscanned | Remote Streamable HTTP at https://mcp.lastscanned.com; nothing to install. | No key: 1 lookup a day. Free key: 5 numbers a day. Pro: $4.99/mo for 1,000. Or MPP credit keys ($0.50 for 25). | 542 carriers, one response shape for every carrier. |
| AfterShip tracking-and-returns MCP | Open-source server from AfterShip on GitHub (AfterShip/tracking-and-returns-mcp). | Needs an AfterShip account; API access is listed on Premium, from $59/mo. | Stronger if you already use AfterShip tracking pages, notifications, and returns. |
| Shippo MCP | Listed by Shippo on goshippo.com for its shipping API. | Shippo API pricing; tracking is 2¢ per track on API Starter. | Stronger if your agent also needs to buy labels and compare rates. |
| Community single-carrier servers | Self-hosted servers that wrap one carrier's developer API, usually USPS. | Free to run; you register for the carrier's own API credentials. | One carrier each, and you maintain the credentials and hosting. |

What the agent gets back
Every carrier returns the same fields: carrier, a status from a fixed set (label_created, in_transit, out_for_delivery, delivered, exception, returned, unknown), the delivery time in UTC and local time, who signed, and every scan event. Try it with real numbers such as UPS 1Z000Y770414233027, USPS 9400111899223197428490, FedEx 873970594430, UniUni UR07270000003615622, or GOFO GFUS01074503026309.
When another MCP is the better choice
If your support team already lives in AfterShip, its MCP keeps the agent and your tracking pages on the same data. If the agent also ships orders, Shippo's MCP can buy labels as well as track them. lastscanned only tracks.
FAQ
- Does the lastscanned MCP server need an API key?
- No. Without a key, track_package gets one free lookup a day and list_carriers always works. Add a free key (5 numbers a day) or a Pro key ($4.99/mo for 1,000) in the Authorization header for more.
- Which MCP clients work with it?
- Any client that supports remote Streamable HTTP servers, including Claude Code, Claude, ChatGPT developer mode, Cursor, VS Code, and Windsurf. The config generator at lastscanned.com/tools/mcp-config-generator writes the snippet for each one.
- Can the MCP server track many packages at once?
- Yes. track_packages accepts up to 100 numbers (at most 35 per carrier). Each number gets its own result or error, so one bad number never fails the rest.
- Does the MCP server cost more than the REST API?
- No. MCP lookups count toward the same usage and limits as REST calls on the same key.
